The meaning, in one line
“Link in bio” is short for “the link is in my profile bio”. The bio is the short description at the top of a social media profile, under the name and photo. When someone writes “link in bio” in a caption, a Reel or a TikTok, they are asking you to leave the post, go to their profile, and tap the website link there.
In Hindi, “link in bio” का मतलब है: लिंक पोस्ट में नहीं, प्रोफ़ाइल (bio) में है। प्रोफ़ाइल खोलें और नाम के नीचे वाला लिंक दबाएँ।
Why creators say “link in bio”
- Captions are not clickable on Instagram. A URL typed into an Instagram caption or comment shows as plain text. The profile link is one of the few places a tap opens a website.
- TikTok works the same way. Links in video captions are not clickable, so the profile website field is where traffic goes.
- One link has to do many jobs. That is why most creators point it to a link in bio page: a small mobile page that lists their latest video, shop, booking link, WhatsApp and more.
How to find and open the link in bio
On Instagram
Tap the account name at the top of the post to open the profile. The link sits under the bio text, often with a small chain icon. Tap it. If the account added several links, tap the first one and pick from the list.
On TikTok
Tap the profile photo or @username. The website link appears under the bio, next to a link icon. Tap it to open it in TikTok's browser.
On Facebook and Threads
Open the profile or Page and look in the Intro or About section for the website. On Threads, the link shows under the bio just like Instagram.
No link visible? The creator may have forgotten to add it, or the post is old and the link has changed. A comment or DM usually gets you the right one.
What is a “link in bio” page?
A link in bio page (also called a bio link or bio site) is a single mobile web page built for that one profile link. Instead of sending followers to a single website, it shows everything in one place: links, videos, music, a shop, a newsletter signup, a booking button or a WhatsApp chat. Linktree made the idea popular; tools like Biolinko do the same job and add selling, UPI payments and analytics.
With Biolinko your page lives at biolinko.me/yourname. The Free plan includes up to 30 blocks, all 8 themes and 30 days of click analytics. You paste that one address into your Instagram, TikTok or YouTube bio.
How to use “link in bio” in your own posts
- Put one link in your profile. A link in bio page is easier to keep up to date than swapping links every post.
- Say what they get. “Recipe in the link in my bio” works better than “link in bio”.
- Keep the top of the page fresh. Put the thing you just posted about first, so people find it in one tap.
- Check what gets clicked. Click analytics show which posts actually send people to your link.
